Congratulations on your engagement and upcoming wedding! I’m so glad you have interest in preparing for your marriage journey before the big moment happens. Truth is, a lot of couples spend a lot more time, effort and money planning their wedding day than they do planning for the intricacies of a life-long relationship together.
On one hand, you can never be fully prepared for marriage – there are some things you are going to have to learn about and deal with as they happen. But on the other hand, it is good to go into your marriage with your eyes as wide open as possible. Hopefully this process can help with that.
Listed below are the topics I traditionally go over with couples, but keep in mind that I want to tailor this process to what your relationship is in need of most, so there is flexibility around these topics.
1) Your stories . . . who are you? How did your relationship develop? What do you think your relationship is most in need of at this stage?
2) Personality assessment: a look into the human personality through the lens of the Enneagram
3) Your spiritual foundation and your expectations . . . where did you come from and where do you think this relationship is headed?
4) Healthy communication and conflict resolution
5) Finances: what do you value?
6) Sexuality and romance . . . speaking each other’s language for years to come
